A Rich History
It all started more than 700 years ago.

In the 18th century, it was transformed into a neoclassical city palace that still exudes the grandeur of its time. This masterpiece by the renowned architect Jan de Vroey showcases his versatility and talent. De Vroey designed many iconic buildings in Belgium, including the imposing Hotel Wagner on Frankrijklei and the elegant Banque du Credit Anversois on Gasthuisstraat.
In 1919, De Gulden Poorte was transformed into the office of the Compagnie Continentale d’lmportation, and in 1971, it found new life as the bank building of the Hypotheek en Kapitalisatiemaatschappij (HKM).
